It is no secret that when life gets busy, the first thing that gets neglected is your own needs. Balancing things like work, taking care of the home, or caring for children leaves little time for personal care. However, not taking care of yourself only makes matters worse by leaving you feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and under-cared for.
Although acts of self can be hard to find time for, they can go a long way to feeling better rested and more on top of your game. Today, we have gathered a few easy and low-commitment ways to practice self care even when life gets busy.
"Everything" night
Taking a few extra minutes to care for yourself can make all the difference when you have a full schedule. At least one night a week, add a few minutes to your shower routine to fit in a little extra pampering. This extra time could be spent on all the pampering tasks you cannot usually find the time for or can be spent just relaxing and taking your time instead of rushing.
Do something for yourself
If you find yourself constantly putting the needs of others over your own, you know that constantly taking care of others often means rarely doing anything for yourself. An important act of self care is actually to just make a conscious effort to do something for yourself every once in a while. It could be something as small as treating yourself to a nice coffee or buying something you have had your eye on for a while. The idea here is to choose to prioritize yourself, too.
Order in, hold the guilt
When your day is filled with work, errands, or picking up the kids, the last thing you want to do is make dinner. In the spirit of self care, we recommend that you skip work this time and order in for dinner instead. Ordering in means less work for you and more free time to spend making memories with your loved ones. And be sure to give yourself permission to enjoy the easy evening instead of feeling guilty. You do not have to labor over dinner to enjoy a nice meal!
Be unproductive
When life is busy, any free moment you get is likely to be filled by something else that needs to be done. We get it, life is busy, but you can decide to take a different path from time to time. Instead of filling every moment with tasks from your to-do list, take the opportunity to slow down and be unproductive. Allowing yourself these moments will help relieve the constant pressure to be proactive and the stress that comes with it.
Selfcare can take many forms, but the most important takeaway is that you do not forget to think about yourself and put your needs first sometimes. And of course, there is nothing wrong with the occasional “retail-therapy” either. So, the next time you are in the mood to treat yourself, give us a visit and get inspired! You do not even need to leave the couch to find a gift for yourself!
